Autumnal High Spirits

In autumn when the days start to get shorter and nature dresses in a uniquely colourful cloak, then in the Eisack Valley it’s time for the year’s fifth season, Törggelen. The local wine growers and farmers open their wine taverns and parlours and offer their guests home made treats from the farmyard and field.

The fifth Eisack valley season

Whenever the days are getting shorter in autumn and the countryside takes on its unique array of colours, then it is time for the Eisack valley’s fifth season, that is, time for Törggelen. For the Eisack valley's farmers that was a good reason to give thanks for a good year’s cultivation.
Whenever the days are getting shorter in autumn and the countryside takes on its unique array of colours, then it is time for Törggelen. For the Eisack valley's farmers that was a good reason to give thanks for a good year’s cultivation. Törggelen has remained a custom to this very day. A walk through colourful vineyards and chestnut groves, past castles and original, unspoilt farmsteads with red-gleaming mountain peaks in the background and the last rays of sun that fall on the "Keschtnbäume" (chestnut trees), that is the right time to look for a farm or wine tavern in order to sample a hearty Törggele meal of local specialities.
