Rebekka Frei

Time that cannot be rushed. Rebekka Frei paints slowly on natural linen, moving between portraiture and abstraction. Zeit ohne Eile speaks of pausing in a world that no longer knows how to pause. For her, being human means confronting one's own vulnerability – and finding slowness an almost defiant act.
“In an accelerated world, slowness becomes something essential.”
About
Rebekka Frei
Rebekka Frei, born in Bozen in 1990, lives and works in her home town. In her contemporary painting she works mainly in medium to large formats on natural materials such as linen and cotton, moving between figurative representation, portraiture and abstraction.
Her imagery is rooted in nature. For the Triennale Klausen she presents the work Falten der Erde (folds of the earth), which explores how our landscapes are changing and so draws humanity and nature together.
What inspired me to explore the theme of “being human”
The theme “Being human” inspired me to reflect on time as something that cannot be controlled or accelerated. With "Zeit ohne Eile" (time without haste) I associate a state of pausing, in which a person does not merely function but consciously perceives, feels and exists.
Being human also means, for me, facing my own vulnerability and transience. Processes such as remembering, growing or changing take time and often arise in moments of stillness. In an accelerated world, this slowness becomes something essential – almost an act of resistance.
